Ilyinsky lighthouse
The lighthouse on the St. Ilya cape.

The western part of Theodosia Bay really created a considerable threat to navigation: the rocky and deceptive cape of Ilya seems to cover the entrance to the harbor. During the period of autumn-winter storms ships here often died, and the need to identify a dangerous place was felt by the city for a long time. The problem of installing the lighthouse was solved thanks to, it can be said, a miracle. In the late 90s of the XIX century, the wife of the actual state councilor Yevdokiya Nikolaevna Rukavishnikova brought from Moscow to Feodosia a son who was ill with tuberculosis. A beneficial climate and daily walks to Cape Ilya conquered the disease. Evdokia, wishing to thank the city, gave a vow on his modest means to build a lighthouse on this shore, wild and dangerous for ships because of rocky shoals. For the first time, the optical system of the Swedish Lindbergh system was operational on February 17, 1899.
